Lasting Power of Attorney

Leave the big decisions to someone you trust

What is a Lasting Power of attorney?

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that gives someone you trust the
power to make decisions on your behalf if you lose mental or physical capacity. There are
two types — and both are equally important:

Our services: LPA setup made simple

Tailored advice on your attorneys and preferences

Drafting both types of LPA

Submission to the Office of the Public Guardian

Optional LPA registration monitoring

Fixed, transparent fees

Health & Welfare LPA

This LPA allows your chosen person (your “attorney”) to make decisions about:

  • Where you live and who provides your care
  • Your daily routine (washing, eating, dressing)
  • Medical treatment, including life-sustaining care
  • End-of-life decisions if you can’t communicate them yourself

Important:
This LPA only comes into effect if you lose capacity — so your voice is still heard as long as you’re able to make decisions yourself.

Property & Financial Affairs LPA

This type of LPA lets your attorney manage:

  • Bank accounts and investments
  • Paying bills, rent or mortgage
  • Collecting benefits or pensions
  • Selling or maintaining property

This LPA can be used as soon as it’s registered, with your consent — or only if you lose capacity. It’s your choice.

Why set up an LPA now?

If you lose capacity without an LPA, your family must apply to the Court of Protection. This is expensive, slow and stressful.

With an LPA in place, the people you trust can act immediately — with full legal authority to support you.

Who should you appoint?

  • A spouse, child, or trusted friend
  • More than one attorney (to act jointly or separately)
  • A professional (like your solicitor or adviser) if appropriate
  • Selling or maintaining property

We’ll guide you on choosing the right people and avoiding common pitfalls.

Donor – That’s you. The person making the LPA to stay in control of who will speak and act for you if you can’t.
